Bitter, rude, crass and cynical are the first words any sane rational human being would initially use to describe Qrow Branwen. He’s certainly not a likable sort of guy at first glance or second or third or even fourth in many cases. Generally he comes off as laid back and nonchalant, not one to let his temper get the better of him but when he does he's got one hell of a sharp tongue and is pretty blunt and harsh in his criticisms without holding back.
In addition to that above sterling character assessment, he's a real cocky son of a bitch to boot. Qrow thrives off conflict and loves himself a good fight and he’s damn well got no qualms starting one when he's got the itch if nobody else is going to. To the point that he'll just flat out go around antagonizing people in the streets if he so feels like it. A skill he's cultivated across years of being a belligerent, drunk asshole. That said, he can absolutely back up his attitude with skill and strength. He’s a seasoned Hunstman and warrior, tested and forged over decades of field experience, fighting for his life day in and out.
In fact, the only thing Qrow likes more than starting and finishing fights is drinking, something that he probably enjoys a little too much. Qrow definitely shows signs of alcoholism and even if he's not drunk off the wall right now he’s got a bottle, a glass, or a flask in his hand and he’s working on it. The things that Qrow has been through in his life, the losses he's suffered and the things he's seen and knows have definitely left their marks on him. Marks that he seems determined to cover up with a flippant, unpleasant attitude and drown under a bottle of cheap whiskey.
Still… despite his more negative character traits he is mostly out to do right thing. Even if he might be cynical enough to see it as a lost cause, his actions are meant to protect the world and the people who live in it. For his lone wolf attitude and prickly demeanour, he shows a surprising amount of loyalty to those who actually earn his respect and a lot of caring to the few people he holds dear. Which is... admittedly a short list. As of now, the only people who get to see most of that softer side are his two nieces, Ruby Rose and Yang Xiao Long.
Still, a little more of that might come out when it comes to kids. Likely due to some impressive clerical oversight, Qrow's in fact a teacher by trade at one of Remnant's many combat schools dedicated to shaping the warriors of the future. He's a tough old bastard and a difficult man to impress, judging by his reactions to watching the kids fight in the tournament in recent episodes, and he's not one to hold back on the criticism even in the face of apparent achievements. Still, he's not mercilessly brutal. To Qrow, every day brings another lesson and there's always more to learn both for himself and for anybody lucky enough to end up under his tutelage.
Just don't you dare call him old.
